Ladakh is a global stronghold for the snow leopard, in some parts housing the highest density of cats per 100 square kilometers ever recorded anywhere, surpassing previous benchmarks in Tibet and Mongolia. They co-exist with people and domestic animals in a delicate but easily perturbed balance.
